Network issue with NT and W2K

In most of our sites we have peer to peer networks that
share data via the workgroup settings. At each of these
sites we have one client running Windows 2000 and 1 or 2
other clients running Windows NT SP6. These machines are
all Dell Opitplexs. Each client accesses data on the W2K
machine via a mapped drive. Some of these locations are
connected via a switch and some are connected via a hub.
We are having an issue with the NT wrkstations, dropping
the network connection to the W2K wrkstation. This
happens at both restart and with the machines sitting
idle. We have all but totally ruled out the cabling and
NICs. I have tried mapping the drive using the UNC and by
using the IP address, and there seems to be no difference
in the randomness of this problem. Has anyone experienced
this type of issue in the past? Does anyone have any idea
as to what may be causing these "dropped" connections?
