W2K networking problem

B

burkinshaw

We have a network of around 100 PCs, of which 10 are W2K.

As of this morning none of the W2K can access the XP machines via
TCP/IP. XP to XP is fine, XP to W2K is fine, W2K to W2K is fine but W2K
to XP does not work.

The W2K machines CAN ping the XP machines using their IP address but
NOT via the machine name, neither can you browse the machine via
'\\machinename'.

Any ideas?

Many thanks,
Andy

Try installing WINS on a DC..just a thought..double check your DNS and DHCP
server settings too..

Hi Andy,

XP professional comes with a personal Firewall, for preventing unauthorised
users accessing the computer. In this setting File and Printer is disabled by
default.

If u want to give access to the XP system form network from any windows
machine Win2k etc. enable File and printer sharing.

How to do:-

Start>programs>control panel>security center >Windows Firewall> select
Exceptions tab>check File and Printer Sharing.

Restart the system.
It will certainly fix the problem.

Also check if any unwanted processes, such as servicer.exe or msdev.exe is
running. If yes end those processes and also remove it from the drive and
registry.

Hope this will help solving ur problem.

Bye,
Liju Rajan
