Network IP probs.

I have had a virus and popup problem on a machine with
both XPPro and 98. I think I have removed the offending
crap.
I can access the internet and network fine when I boot to
98. When I boot to XP I can't! I ran the network scan and
it can ping the remote email server (24.71.233.43) and
the gateway (192.0.0.254), and any other local PC. It
fails to loopback (192.0.0.189) which is assigned by the
router! The only FAILED in the scan are the IP for the
NIC and the connection to the mail ports 110 and 25.
I can't ping it from any local PCs. I have installed (re-
installed?) simple TCP-IP in the "add windows components
window", removed and re-installed the NIC in Device
Manager in XP. Like I said, it all works fine when I boot
to 98. What the....?

What is the problem?? No one ever answers my posts on
these MS "help" boards. MS won't help unless they get a
credit card. Here's me looking into Linux...
