Network/internet take 5 minutes to connect after boot...

I normally do a hibernate when I shut down. However, I now notice that when I
boot, I do not get a network connection for 5 minutes. I cannot even go into
"My Network Places". I mean it won't even open for 5 minutes. This is a by
the clock 5 minutes, not a subjective guess.

I have turned off firewalls/virus checkers and have seen no change.

I have shutdown everything I believe that might be trying to connect to the
network. Wireless and Internet. No change.

If I hibernate I connect immediately. No surprise. That it was is what is
supposed to happen.

However, if anyone can point me in the right direction, it would be greatly
appreciated.

Thank you,

I encountered this problem myself and looked into the issues that you
mentioned.

Seems each PC in the network announce themselves to others, and it does take
three to five minutes to do so at startup, and then at some intervals
thereafter, like 12 minutes, which is why you couldn't see it immediately.
You might "google" a bit, and look up the functionalities of the "master
browser", and how it works.

I did resort to "adding a network place" within "network places", and found
that I can see the connection and create one, sometines when a connection
does not show up in "network places". BUT afterwards, if I do this, I find
that the connection shows up twice in the "neighborhood".

There is a command "NBTSTAT /?" that I use to check out communications
between the different PC members of the domain.

One thing I noticed was after the network's been established for a while
(several weeks), the various workstations seem to "remember" others in the
domain, and connections show up much faster at bootup. At this point, the
problem appeared to have gone away by itself.
