"Preparing Network Connections" takes 2.5 minutes during bootup???

I have Win XP SP2, and during boot, it takes 2.5 minutes to get thru the
"preparing network connections"

It eventually continues and completes and works fine, it just doesn't seem
like that one task should take that long.

I would expect the entire bootup to take less than 2.5 minutes???

Are you on a corporate network, or is this a home system? The
troubleshooting changes if you're participating in a domain.

Yes, on a corp LAN, but IT's recommendation was to update BIOS, but it is a
new laptop.

I have installed NetStumbler, and a couple other wireles cards, but their
client utilities are not auto launced.

Well, not sure if you have the permissions to do this on your machine based
on your company's group policy, however you could try this:

1. Go to the start menu
2. Select Run
3. Type in MMC and click ok
4. Go to the file menu and select Add/Remove snapin
5. click the add button
6. Select Group Policy Object Editor
7. Click Add
8. Click Finish
9. click close
10. Click ok
11. Expand Local ComputeR Policy
12. Expand Computer Configuration
13. Expand System
14. Select Logon
15. Set Always Wait for the network at computer startup and logon to
disabled.

Give this a try.
