i have 2 xp computers on a local network, and im not mapping any hardrives or folders, but when i access a folder from the other computer it automatically maps the folder or drive i accessed, and stays mapped, even through a restart, unless i manually disconnect the map, is this supposed to be like this?? and on the other computer when i access its files, on my computer on the other computer it brings up files that are the name of what i accessed, and it displays these as mapped drives, but are unspecified files. it started doing this when i mapped a drive on the network for the first time, can anyone help me out??

Uncheck the "Reconnect at logon" box OR in your NET USE statement, add
/persistent:no.

The last thing I am not sure I understand your explanation. =)

if you are talking about "my network places" it shows all the computers on
your network regardless if they are mapped or not
