The above is an extract from my Network Diagnostics screen. I have no
problems with using msnews.microsoft.com in OE but wondered why the pinging
of the IP address failed. Is it the correct address for the server? If not
where does the Diagnostic program get the IP address from and how do I
correct it?

I have XP SP1 (Home Edition) with all the latest fixes applied.

Thanks in anticipation.

Because MS (like many others) have turned off 'respond to ping' on their
servers. Most of the time I have is disabled at =my= router as well -
helps avoid DoS attacks, and makes it harder for script kiddies to
detect when you are online (although that doesn't apply to the MS
servers).
