Network connection stalling

We have a number of xp pro clients connected to a w2k domain server.
When a xp client tries to connect to another xp clients share it takes 10 to
20 seconds to display folder list, (Just pauses)
If we connect to server share its ok but as I said if an xp client tries to
display or open a document on another xp unc it stalls for 10 to 20 secs
then displays it.
The second time imediate after it is is very quick.

Try mapping the drives of the other computers and see if that helps.

Better yet each user should be storing thier files on the server either in a
shared folder location or in a personal folder. This way your backup device
on your server will backup the shared and user folders on the server. Then
map the shared folder on each computer and make it the same drive letter.
Now place a shortcut to the mapped folder on the workstation desktop.
