Network connection lost

Hello,
I’m a bit confused.I can’t connect to my local network anymore.
I checked the following points.
SW =XP-prof SP2
I already tried another port and cable on my router
No eclamationmarks or crosses on my NIC in hardware.
Properties says : No problems on HW and driver

Lan connection : Connected,0 send / 0 received

When I pull the Lancable : 1 lanconnection disconnected

So all this looks perfectly well

But in my DOSbox it says
Ipconfig : not possible, hostname not found
Hostname : econel-xpp
Ping econel-xpp : not possible error 2

I also can’t see myself in the “Networksurroundingâ€

What do I miss?
Anybody any ideas ?

On your network connection Support tab check what is your ip address? If it
says 169.xxx.xxx that means your network card cannot see your router. Try
clicking Repair try reset power to network hardware Good Luck.

Hi Scot,I don't get an IP,altough the connection is DHCP,all the other
PC's in the network are fine,I repowered both PC and Router several times
and also changed ports and cables between them.
So it must be an internal failuere in the PC.Looks like XP doesn't recognise
the
LAN connection, and so doesn't asks for an IP-adres.

Control Panel > Network Connections - you should see a "Local Area
Connection" if not then your NIC may not be properly installed.

If you see Local Area Connection, make sure it does not say "Disabled" if
it does right-click and "Enable" it

Right-click Local Area Connection, select "Status" Click on "Support" tab
and you will see the IP address for your box. There should be some number in
there. I think you want it to be a 192.168.xxx.xxx
169.xxx.xxx means it cannot see the router. 169.xxx could indicate a bad
NIC.

Good luck. Scott

Also look at the lights on the network card. If it has two lights one should
light solid to show that there is a connection. The other one should blink
when sending and receiving data. It may connect but not be able to
send/receive traffic. Maybe try a different network card.

Good luck. Scott

Hi Scott
yesterday I booted with a knoppix CD,it found and installed the NIC
immediately and I could browse the net and my other PC's.
So it must be a XP problem.

Maybe check your services and make sure necessary services are running in
XP -
Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Component Services>Services (Local) >
Some of the necessary services to run network is 'DHCP Client' 'Network
Connections' I don't know all but you can compare to an XP box that works.

Good Luck.
