Network connection drops

M

Maurice Bishop

Environment: Win2K Pro with SP4 hooked up to 100BaseT hub together with 4 x
Win98SE boxes and Win2K SBS 2000 with SP2.

All running MS client, with TCP/IP transport only.

Problem: very occasionally, typically once or twice a day, the Win2K Pro
machine drops the network connection. i.e. the mapped drives to the server
won't see the server, pinging the server fails. If you go into Windows
Explorer, the mapped drives are present, but clicking on them results in a
drive unavailable error. Two minutes later all is well!

Efforts made to resolve problem:

I'm confident the NIC is OK. I am confident the cable is OK.
I have changed the registry 'autodisconnect' to 65000 and the machine is
rebooted daily.
None of the other clients have any problems, running the same apps.

Running outa ideas.

TIA

Maurice
