Mapped drives fail with red cross in Explorer

M

Maurices Bishop

Have a number of customer LANS with client machines running Win2K SP4.

All running pure IP on various server NT4 server, Win2K server and Win2K SBS
servers.

Problem is to do with network connections dropping intermittently. If you go
into Windows Explorer, the mapped drives display a red cross against them.
Clicking on the mapped drive results in an error.

I have changed the autodisconnect registry setting to no avail.

I have changed the NIC and upgraded the NIC driver to the latest off the
manufacturers web site, to no effect.

Only seems to happen on Win2K Pro.

Grateful for comments

TIA

Check the ipconfig/all from the clients. Does everything point to the
server-IP?
How many nics in the server? What OS on the clients?
If you're using W9x, ME or NT4, WINS should be installed on the server. Got
options 003, 006, 015 and if using WINS also options 044 and 046 (0x8) set
in DHCP-server, Scope options?
Does DNS point to the server-IP?
