Yettie,

Try the file sharing tutorials on these websites to start:

Are you running both Client for Microsoft Networks, and File and Printer Sharing
for Microsoft Networks (Local Area Connection - Properties), on each computer?
Do you have shares setup on each?

Are you running NetBIOS Over TCP/IP (Local Area Connection - Properties - TCP/IP
- Properties - Advanced - WINS) on each computer?

Make sure the browser service is running on each computer. Control Panel -
Administrative Tools - Services. Verify that the Computer Browser service shows
with Status = Started.

Chuck
Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.

I also have this problem. I am NOT running NetBIOIS. Is that needed?

Hi

NetBEUI is Not a Must, a well behaved system needs only TCP/IP.

However, when "Push Comes to Shove" NetBEUI can bail you out of Trouble.

Log to this page it has a lot of links to instructions to Windows Network
Settings, and Sharing. http://www.ezlan.net/sharing.html

Ed,

You do indeed need NetBIOS Over TCP/IP, or a similar protocol, to carry CMN and
FPSMN, if you want to share files. Most helpers here recommend NBT (NetBIOS
Over TCP/IP) instead of NetBEUI or Netware (IPX/SPX), as NBT is more efficient
(TCP/IP already being installed for internet access), and it is routable
(NetBEUI and IPX/SPX are not).

And Ed, please don't contribute to the spread and success of email address
mining viruses. Learn to munge your email address properly, to keep yourself a
bit safer when posting to open forums. Protect yourself and the rest of the
internet - read this article.

That's what I thought too though of only second rate
network knowledge myself. Under my lan is "Client for
Microsoft networks", "File and printer sharing", "QoS
packet scheduler" and "Internet Protocol tcp/ip".

Seems to work fine for the most part and shares files
just fine.
