network clients won't install

I have a new notebook puter connected wireless to home network & internet through router. 2 other desktops (win98) on network that can see each other. I can access internet & can see the network, but can't see the other puters. I think its because the network clients won't install properly. I see them in properties for the wireless connection, but they are not checked. When I check thier boxes & OK to exit, I get the following error message, "your current selection will disable the following components: client for Microsoft networks & file and printer sharing for MS networks, are you sure you want to disable these components? yes/no". IF yes, it reboots but does not activate those components. What do I need to change to be able to acivate these and will that fix the main problem of not being able to see the other puters.
