I have been trying to transfer files from my old computer using the
file and settings transfer Wizard. to my new laptop and am getting the error
msg. that windows cannot locate my new computer. I did set up a wireless
network between the two computers and am able to share my internet
connection and can share files and folders and printer. the new computer
shows that the LAN cable is unplugged..any suggestions would be appreciated.

You're using a wireless network between the two computers. Do they
also have wired network adapters that you're not using? If so, then
the LAN cable really is unplugged on the wired connection.

If you can do it, I recommend using a wired network connection for
running the FAST Wizard -- it transfers data much faster than a
wireless network.

If you're not going to use the wired network adapters, disable their
connections in the Network Connections folder.

Thank you but I was under the impression that transfering files using the
files and transfer wizard was a lot faster than a wired connection. maybe I
was misinformed are you suggesting that I connect a cable from my old
computer to my new computer and I'm not sure waht you mean by a fast transfer
Wizard.

"FAST Wizard" is an abbreviation for "File and Settings Transfer
Wizard". That wizard is a program that can transfer Windows files and
settings from one computer to another over a network.

A wired network connection typically transfers data faster than a
wireless network connection.

So, I'm suggesting that you connect the two computers using a wired
network connection and then run the File and Settings Transfer Wizard
program.
