Network Cable Unplugged

I've read all the messages to date and none have solved my problem. My Local
Area Connection to a wired ethernet connection reports that the "Local Area
Network Cable is unplugged". It is clear from the posts that many users are
having this problem.

The cable is plugged in. I have changed cables and tried hotel cables but
none works. The light goes on on the router to indicate the cable is
plugged. I get no network traffic over the wired connection, neither LAN or
DSL. In the Device Manager I unchecked the box to turn the device off to
save power. I use the current version of ZoneAlarm, not the Windows Firewall.

Wireless connection works fine! But I turn the wireless off when trying the
wired connection.

This computer used to work fine with the same hardware. I think the problem
started with the SP2 installation. My desktop connected by wire to the same
router works fine.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the device. I have sought updated
drivers. I read the PC Magazine article and tried the command "netsh winsock
reset catalog". I checked TCP/IP Filtering and "Permit All" is checked.
Nothing so far has worked.

Any help is welcome.

This one had me scratching my head a few weeks back, until I got bored of it
and decided to fix it ;-)

What type of ethernet are you using? 10, 10/100, 10/100/1000 (what I was
using)

Ok try this:

-Click on start and go to Control Panel
-Click on Network Connections
-Right click on your ethernet connection and go to properties
-On the ethernet adapter click on configure
-Under advanced there should be an option of Desired Tx Rate, set this to auto

Lemme know what happens ;)

Thanks for responding. I have an Intel Pro/100 VE device. It has a raft of
options, one of which is "Link Speed & Duplex". That was already set to
"Auto Detect". I changed it to another choice and then back but still no
difference. The connection still shows: "Network Cable Unplugged".

Good suggestion though.

Thanks.
