Network Cable Unplugged Error

Pat

I've tried to get some assistance from a Zone Alarm forum, but so far
they've offered limited advice. I upgraded ZA a few days ago and after
rebooting I received the Network Cable Unplugged error on the systray.
Their advice was to uninstall, reinstall the previous version, and uninstall
again - which I've done.

Here's what I know:
Win 2K Pro
Realtek RTL8139(A) based on board Network Adapter - oddly, this reads as
"#2", although I have no other adapter
Device Manager shows the device is working properly
ipconfig shows media state....cable disconnected

Here's what I've done
Checked cable and rebooted router/firewall
Deleted and reinstalled TCP/IP protocol
Deleted the device in Manager and rebooted the computer - New Hardware found
message does not come up when Windows starts, but the network adapter is
automatically there and configured as before
Used Add/Remove Hardware to uninstall and reinstall the device in the same
Windows session. In this case, the New Hardware Found message appears, but
I still don't get a network connection after it's installed.
Deleted the driver and reinstalled

So far, all of this results in the same - network cable unplugged.

Any other advice, short of format C:, that you might suggest to clear out
this network connection and create a fresh one? I'm pretty sure it's not
hardware related, since it happened right after the update and device
manager shows it working fine.
Thanks for your time and help,
Pat

Hi,

Please delete the following information from the registry
check which NIC driver dervice is running under

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services
and
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\NetworkCards

delete them and reinstall the driver

for eq:

you can find the driver service starting with the name of the driver like
3com , realtek and so on

or try replacing the NIC with a different NIC and see you get the same
error or not

I think replacing the network cable could fix your problem, because
everything else is coming up just find. If that doesnt work try getting the
latest driver for the NIC.
