Network cable unplugged, but it's NOT!!!! Broadcom 440x NIC

Thanks for looking and for any help you might be able to provide.

My laptop says that a cable is unplugged, but I've tried 3 different cables
that all work fine on another machine. This is a Broadcom 440x integrated
10/100 NIC and I have the suite that I can test the card. It passes all the
tests!

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and the card. Nothing, still
says the cable is unplugged.

Anyone have any idea what the problem could be??

Does this MS KB article describe your situation (it doesn't solve the
problem!): http://support.microsoft.com/kb/899759/en-us

This explains the problem except that I don't have any access. This article
says the red X is there but you still get a connection. I have the red X and
no connection.

You said that you tried different cables that worked OK on another
machine. Have you tried connecting this laptop to whatever you
connected the other machine to? (In other words, are you sure that the
port you are connecting to is functional?)

Does the LED next to the jack on your NIC light up when you connect the
cable?

Did the NIC ever work? If so, what happened just before it stopped working?

I don't know what "suite" you have to test your NIC, but unless you have
a loopback connector, it's still possible that the jack itself is not
functional, even if the internal tests show OK.

Your best bet is probably to ask the laptop manufacturer, although you
probably will have to escalate the issue past the initial script-reader.
