network - best way?

Ashok

I have 1 server computer (windows 2003 server), 5 computers (xp) and 2
laptops (xp). Server is used for file sharing, has network programs
installed (network license, used by almost all users on their comp), and
backup. The network is installed using a router (not ICS). I want to improve
the network so that I can:
1. use server to login and troubleshoot issues on other computers (other
computers users have limited accounts, I have admin account)
2. somehow automate the backup process
3. be able to remotely connect to the server ( and other comps) to remotely
troubleshoot or perform other tasks (usually from home and I use one of the
2 laptops for this purpose. currwntly I have remoteadmin installed on
server.)

What is the best option to achieve all this? Please point to some good
resources.
Also, please point out the best ways to achieve all this.

www.logmein.com, www.gotomypc.com, VNC, MS's Remote Desktop, or similar
products

The normal Windows Backup does scheduled backups.
3. be able to remotely connect to the server ( and other comps) to
remotely troubleshoot or perform other tasks (usually from home and I use

Same as #1
