I have installed various netowrk adapters on my computer
to remedy problems I occasionally have with my default
one. I have removed the devices, but they still show up
in system queries (programs, Belarc Advisor, MS scripted
queries). I assume it is because their drivers files, or
reference to their drivers, or still intact. How do I
remove these adapters from being shown (i.e. delete their
files). If you need any additional information, let me
know.

Best to remove the devices from device manager,
then shut down, then remove the hardware.

Otherwise the drivers remain after you pull the hardware.

Have a read of this:

Device Manager Does Not Display Devices That Are Not
Connected to the Windows XP-Based Computer
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;315539

You might like to use this article to force Device Manager to show the
nonpresent devices.
The nonpresent ghosts should now reveal themselves.
You could then delete the nonpresent network adapters from device manager.
