I have a client who complained of loss of network connectivity. I ran
Ipconfig from the command prompt and it immediately went back to the prompt
with no error message and no IP info. I checked device manager and no network
adapters were listed. The network adapter heading was not even there. The
event logs showed no indication of loss of network connectivity. I rebooted
the PC and checked that the onboard adapter was enabled, which it was and
when the system rebooted, device manager showed the network adapter and
network connectivity was returned to normal. What Happened? The system uses
an Intel D915GEVLK motherboard and is about 2 months old. I would think that
if it were hardware related, there would be an entry in the event logs but
the NIC would show up in device manager with an red x or yellow question mark.
