I just re-installed Windows XP on my new hard drive, but the network adapter
doesnot showup on device manager. Instead of network adapters, Othert
devices shows up with 3 yellow ? . Do I dare put the re-installation disk
back in my computer and look for the Network adapters? I have a Dell
resources
CD but have had no luck finding network adapters on it.

After you install an operating system, you need to install the drivers for
all your hardware. As long as the Dell Resources CD came with your computer
(i.e., is the right one for your model), it will have your network adapter
drivers on it. Install them. If the Resource CD you have is *not* the right
one for your computer, get the drivers at Dell's website.

I usually prefer to install the ethernet network adapter drivers first if I
have a Resource CD and then go to Dell's tech support website and download
the latest drivers for all the hardware. This includes the motherboard
(chipset), audio, video, network, built-in SD card reader (usually Ricoh),
the touchpad if a laptop, and Notebook Software if a notebook.

No, you have it exactly backwards. You need to install the drivers first.
Dell's drivers come in an expandable executable, looking something like
R32356.exe. I usually download these executables to the Desktop where I
will find them. You double-click on R32356.exe and a wizard will take you
through unpacking the files. Then the driver installation routine will
automatically start. Just follow along. After all the drivers are
installed, delete the R32356.exe, etc. you downloaded since you don't need
them any more.

It seems that one of these "other devices" is yor netcard, then
yes it does show up.
The following depends on how the manufacturer's driver looks.
If it is one exe file, just run it.
If it is an .inf + few other files, go to Device manager, right click on
the "other device" and select Update driver.
