Network access problem - "Access denied"

T

Todd

I have just updated n.a.v. antivirus software on a server/workstation
running xp pro.
After the update no machines on the network could access the machine which
hosts client files.
Error was "(Access denied - Check you have permission to access) also
something about not enough disk space - this is not true.
I removed the antivirus software and all works again. Installed another
software from Trend and
the same thing, it stops. So I removed it and installed AVG Free and same
thing!!! I removed it
and all is working now but we have no virus protection anymore. How can I
fix this weird problem?

The antivirus programs have changed an obscure TCP/IP setting. This
Microsoft Knowledge Base article has the solution: specifying a value
of 15 for IRPStackSize on the server/workstation computer after
installing an antivirus program:

NAV may have horked your system in some way that may
require you to fix Windows. I would first try a system
restore to a time BEFORE the NAV update. If the issue
persists, then go to start / run / "CMD" 0 at thge DOS
prompt type SFC /purgecache <cr>. Once this is done put
the XP disk in the drive and type SFC /scannow. This will
take 15 min and will attempt to replace the System files
( this is the system file checker utiliyy. If this does
not work, you may need to repair the installation. Just
put the disk in and tell it to upgrade is one option. I
like to boot off of the cdrom and repair the
installation. (not in the recovery console) - just press
enter when the what do you want to do screen appears.
Agree to the EULA and then press R for repair this
installation.
cheers
