Network Access Denied

I cannot access my main PC from any of my other PC's on the network but can
access the other PC's from the main PC. The main PC is running XP Pro the
other's are running XP Pro and WIndows 2000. All PC's can use the internet
through my router and print to the printer, both of which are connected to
the main PC.

When trying to access shared files on the main PC I get an Access Denied
error, I can see the main PC on the network, I just can't access it.

I have SP2 installed.

Any help on the matter?

Thanks,

Terry

See the post "Home Networking", Tony's answer earlier today and see if
that takes care of it.

No, this didn't work. I read in a post here, something about lanmanserver
and stacks but can't seem to locate it now. Seems the poster there had the
same problem I am having now.

You need to create identical user accounts and passwords on all the
machines. Then you won't get the Access Denied error.

Have long done that, still no luck

Well, of course since you didn't tell us that, there was no way of
knowing. Without actually seeing the machines, it is hard to give a
specific answer. Here are places to check - and yes, you should check
them *again* for typos and just to be sure.

1. All machines in same workgroup
2. All machines have unique computer names
3. All machines on same subnet (192.168.1.xxx, etc.)
4. No machine has the same computer name as a user account (i.e., if you
have a user account "Terry", don't have a computer named "Terry")
5. All firewalls should have the lan added to be trusted. Since you are
using SP2, if you are using a third-party firewall make sure the
Windows firewall is *off* - it may be turned on without you being aware
of it.
6. Simple sharing turned off.
7. Identical user accounts and passwords created on all machines. Check
to make sure the spelling/case of the user accounts matches, and make
sure all passwords match.
8. Create desired shared resources and make sure permissions to use
those resources are properly set.
9. Since you have a mixed network - and for better network security -
the XP Guest account should be disabled if it is not already. I believe
Win2k's Guest account is disabled by default.

That's about it, although here are links to excellent network sites. You
might want to start with Hans-Georg Michna's network troubleshooter:

You may be thinking of the lanman parameters setting. Changing this is
totally unnecessary unless you are on a domain connecting to a server,
which you presumably are not.

when trying to set 'scheduled tasks'I go through the process OK but when I
press the 'Finish' button I get the message 'account information could not be
set'.
error - 0x80070005: access denied.
Does anyone know what's happening here? I'm the only user of this laptop and
am the 'administrator.' Any help greatly apreciated. best wishes, Chushin33
