Netlogon errors 5788 5789; Userenv error 1000 return value 1317

The recommendations in article 257734 did not resolve the
problem. So I:

1. joined the machine to a workgroup, then rebooted
2. removed the computer account from Active Directory
3. renamed the machine, then rebooted
4. joined the machine to the domain, then rebooted


The same errors appear in the event logs. Are there other
possible causes for these errors?

Restarting the Netlogon service results in Netlogon error
5789 followed by 5788.

Make sure that the TCP/IP settings on the client are set to obtain an IP and
DNS automatically from your DHCP-server. You also might have a look at
www.eventid.net for some more options.
