I have a user on w2k sp1 who gets "Unable to log you on because the netlogon
service is not running on this machine"?? What can I do to start the
service. This error message came up after a tech installed some software.
We cant even login through Safe Mode. We get the same message. Is there a
work around? Also, when booting up it takes several minutes to even get to
the logon screen?? Any suggestions??

Have you tried to mange it through Computer Management on another computer,
either logging in with a person who has rights to it or right clicking on
computer management and choosing run as command, once open right click on
local computer and shoose connect to another computer, once connect you can
stop /start services, you probaly want to stop any services associated with
the app while you debug the problem, you can also use the NET command from
the command line.

Hope this helps,

Is it still possible to manage the workstation even though you cant log on to
it? I can get it up the logon prompt, but then when you try to log on you
get the, "Unable to log you on because the netlogon service is not running on
this machine. Is it possible?

Yes.
