Net time /set doesn't seem to work for me. net time /querysntp
shows tock.onrl.navy.mil which works fine if I use the Atomic Time Set
program. Can someone tell me how to make it work?

What exactly doesn't work?

C:\WINNT\system32\net time /set
Could not locate a time-server.

The help msg 3912 just gives the same explaination.

C:\WINNT\system32 net time /querysntp
The current SNTP value is: tock.usno.navy.mil

[USNO is US Naval Observatory, a reliable source.]

Try;
net time /setsntp:192.5.41.209

or any other ntp source of your choosing
(192.5.41.209 = ntp2.usno.navy.mil)

Thanks for the info. I tried NTP2 and a few others from the list
(Thanks for that!!). However, none seem to work. sntpquery report
that I am using the latest entry to the list and I tried the numeric IP
as well as full site names. I must be doing something wrong.

You mentioned "Atomic Time Set" I'm not familiar with this but you may need
to uninstall this in order for the native Windows Time service to be able to
function. These links may also help.

I removed Atomic Time Set but it didn't change the situation.
The article on w32tm is super. Many thanks. The output produced by
w32tm -v and w32tm -once looks reasonable and doesn't seem to indicate
any errors. In fact I think w32tm -once actually updated my clock.
So, the problem lies in the Win2K "net time" program.

Glad to hear those helped. To be sure we're on the same page. The commands
you posted would be ambiguous and incomplete hence the error message you
receive. Also make sure the Windows Time service is set to 'Automatic' and
that it is running.
