.Net Framework

I run XP SP2 and IE7.
When I run Microsoft Update it tells me that I already have both .Net
Framework 1.1 and 2 downloaded on my PC but that both are uninstalled
(neither show in Add/Remove Programs or Windows Installer Cleanup).
I really want to get rid of both these updates from the PC as I don't like
to have clutter hanging around taking up valuable space. I have spent many
hours trying to find where they are located, including cleaning my Temp files
with CCleaner, but with no success.
Can some kind person please tell me how to remove them completely, please.

I downloaded those once. The files I got
were self-executing CABs named something
like dotnetfx11.exe and dotnetfx2.exe. Those
are the acutal installers and can safely be deleted
if you find them. If memory serves there will
also be a folder in Windows or Windows\System32,
with an obvious dotnettish name, that will house
the side-by-side installs of the various .Net
runtimes.

If you want to check installation, see these two
Registry keys, where HKLM is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
Data of 1 in the "Install" (or InstallSuccess) value
indicates you have the given .Net runtime. Probably
you could also stop Windows Update from foisting
them on you by creating the values yourself.

v. 1.1:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v1.1.4322\Install
v.2:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v2.0.50727\Install
v.3.5:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v3.5\Install
v. 3.0:

1. Stop the Automatic Updates service:

Start > Run > (type in) services.msc > [OK]
Double-click Automatic Updates > Click on Stop
(Stopping the service will take a moment)

2. Delete the contents of the Download folder:

Start > Run > (type in) %windir%\SoftwareDistribution > [OK]
Open the Download folder and delete its contents
Close the window.

3a. Download .NET Framework 2.0 (Save to your desktop; do NOT Run it):

3b. Download .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 (Save to your desktop; do NOT

install it.]

6. Start the Automatic Updates service:

Start > Run > (type in) services.msc > [OK]

Thanks for all of this but I'm afraid it has not worked. What I'm trying to
do is to remove all traces of .NET Framework from my PC. Updates is telling
me that I have these 2 updates on the PC somewhere even though they are
uninstalled. I followed all your steps right through to re-installing them
and then uninstalling. Then ran update again and once more it tells me they
are already downloaded but uninstalled.

Would be grateful for any further ideas.
