Windows .net Framework update probleams.

I am running Windows XP Professional SP2.
This morning I received the usual Windows Update Notification which had 5 or
6 items to update; all but one successfully updated, the one which would not
was "Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1". I had previously, 3 or 4
days ago, received an update notice to install "Microsoft .Net Framework 3.0"
which I successfully installed.
Not having any success after many attempts to install this latest "Microsoft
..Net Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1" I called Microsoft support for help. I was
instructed to remove ALL .Net Framworks (1.1, 2 & 3 and all security upadates
thereof) using the Add/Remove module in the Control Panel and having done
that to excecute one more Windows update which would retreive all required
..Net modules to be re-installed.
Windows finds 4 modules, 2 in the High Priority Update Section (Security
Update For Microsoft .Net Framework, Version 2.0 and again the previouly
mentioned Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1, Plus 2 more in the
Optional Windows Update Section: Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 x86 and
Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 x86. None of this 4 modules will install.
Can anyone give an idea as to what may be going on and how to revolve this
issue.

Thanks

Hi,

in fact all Microsoft .Net Framework Redistributable modules (V1.0, V1.1,
V2.0 & V3.0) have to be re-installed but only after running the
"Cleaup_tool.exe" program available from Microsoft. After all the modules
have been installed there are about 10 updated to be downloaded and installed
from the Windows Update site. Done that the system looks and runs OK.
