.NET Framework 2.0 Beta 2 Configuration Snap in failure

After installing the new Beta 2 .NET 2.0 framework
on a Win2k3 (64bit) machine, the Framework 2.0 Configuration MMC won't
start, I get
the follow message:

Snap-in failed to initialize.
Name: .NET Framework 2.0 Configuration
CLSID:{A22B5BA1-D8CF-4DB6-BC91-CFC1A04E2469}

Messagebox displayed when I start the program...

The machine also has SQL Server 2005 CTP installed, and this is how the .NET
framework 2.0 beta 2 came to be installed (as a prerequisite).
I have tried 'Repairing' the .NET framework installation but this does not
seem to work.

Any ideas?

VS.NET Beta 2 is not compatible with SQL-Server Beta 2 or with any CTP
older than April (I think). Which version of SQL-Server 2005 did you use?

You are also running this stuff on a 64 bit machine. I'm not sure if it's a
good thing with this beta 2.

SQL Server 2005 (64 Bit edition) CTP Version 9.0.1116.00
..NET Framework 2.0.50215.44 (installed with above)
Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Version 8.0.50215.44 (beta2.050215-4400)

We have not installed Visual Studio .NET Beta 2 on this machine. We have
only installed the SQL Server 2005 CTP and this automatically installs .NET
Beta 2 and a skeletal version of Visual Studio Beta 2 for creating reports
etc.
You are also running this stuff on a 64 bit machine. I'm not sure if it's a

We are using the 64-bit versions of all technologies - it should work.

Sorry I forgot - we are using the July 2005 edition of SQL Server 2005
(64bit) CTP

If you are using all the latest versions, then everything should be OK. The
June CTP of 2005 use a slightly upgraded version of the .Net Framework 2.0
but VS.NET Beta 2 should be fine with it.

It is possible that you did not perform the installation on a clean
installation of Win2003? There are been many report from people getting
problems when trying to install a new version after removing a previous
version.

In your last message, you make a mention of the July version 2005; which is
not yet publicly available. If this is the case and not a typo, then maybe
you should ask your question to the Beta groups.

If this was a typo, then maybe the
http://communities.microsoft.com/newsgroups/default.asp?icp=sqlserver2005
will be a better place to ask this question. This newsgroup have the title
of SQL-Server Beta2 but it's also used for the CTP versions.

There is also
http://lab.msdn.microsoft.com/vs2005/community/forums/default.aspx
specifically for VS2005.
