NET Framework 1.1

I just discovered a download for Microsoft .NET Framework
on windows update. It is .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1.
It is 10.2 MB and am asking is it important? Would the
average "Joe" need to download it? I have already got SP2
on my computer. It just seems a lot to download if I won't
need it. I don't even know what Net Framework means.
Thank you.

This is a critical update - it is always a good idea to download ALL
critical updates, even if you don't think you will need them. This is
because Critical Updates usually address security or future compatibility
issues.

More and More programs are utilizing .NET Framework. ATI's new Control
Panel, for example, needs .NET Framework 1.1. It would therefore not be
surprising if future programs and drivers rely on .NET Framework 1.1 Service
Pack 1.

..NET Framework 1.0 SP3 is also available. It is a good idea to download
this also. If you have installed Windows XP SP1, you probably have .NET
framework
1.0 as this was an optional install as part of SP1.

The .NET framework is only needed if you want to run programs written
using .NET

You probably already have some version of the .NET framework installed.
Since many software programs being released for Windows XP are being
written using .NET, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to upgrade this
at some point. But if all your current apps are working, I wouldn't
worry about it too much.

Then again, there may be security holes in the old version that have
been fixed, so that would be another good reason to upgrade.

If AU isn't offering SP3 for .Net Framework 1.0 then the OP doesn't have
it or need the SP3 update.
