When I couldn't get the bugger to boot after ghosting a new HD, I did a
clean install of XP Home on my new 120 gig HD. Began the laborious task
of reloading all my apps - all went well until I got to Nero (Ultra
edition 6.0.0.3)
It went thru the install process OK untill nearly to the end - then
froze at "processing registery settings" while also declaring "Nero
Burning ROM Update in progress". BUT, that was the 5th or so time I
trying to install it, and after in desperation loading v5.?? of Nero,
then uninstalling that, and trying again to install v6.
The previous attempts were basically the same except they said it was
installing Nero Burning ROM instead of updating it.
NOTE that this version, installed of the same CD, had been installed on
my old HD and worked fine - same OS etc just different HD. Naturally I
checked out the HD with Nortons and all is fine - and all my other apps
installed OK.
Now, by coincidence perhaps?, my Pioneer DVD writer has packed up - it
is recognised by Windows (shows up in my computer etc) but just clicks
away and won't give up any of the data on the CD I am trying to read or write.
NOTE that the problem with installing Nero occured using my Samsung CD
player, not the Pioneer. (both are installed and I have made no changes
to their installation/settings/cables etc
Geez I hate Windows crap
Any ideas much appreciated
