I suspect Nero needs to come out with an upgraded version of Nero.

Meantime I have a backup drive full of *.nco <---- Nero compressed files that I can't access. RAR doesn't have a clue what to do with them.
Anyone know of a Nero version that will work with this NEW Vista machine ?
Just curious what could be newer than a light scribe DVD, Pentium dual core , directx 10, etc...

v7.7.5.1 is Vista compatible.
Not with the Vista machine below. It was on hold , 'Not to be sold beforeJan 30, 2007'. Hard to believe the machine itself is obsolete after 40 days.
that version is the one I'm having trouble installing.
It want's to downgrade my directx 10 to directx9.

Yes, the DirectX dialogue pops up but it won't make any changes to DirectX,
as it'll realise you're running v10 already.
I've installed this version on Vista lots of times with no errors.
I do just install the burning rom though, nothing else.

Without an install disk, or maybe I do have an OS disk. I got a disk labeled anytime upgrade. But that doesn't say it's Vista Home premium. I'm not in any big rush to have the OS tank on me.

I installed win 98 and XP Pro so many times because of it's instability, I could do it in my sleep. But until I get an OS disk, I really don't want 3rd party software deleting the original software from the drive.

And I already made the [you can only make 1 recovery disk] recovery disk.on 2 DVD's and a CD. Now the catch-22, how do I make copies of these if I can't install Nero ?

You ***CAN*** install Nero. It will not downgrade DirectX.
It's no different to installing games, some have a lower version of directx
than what may be on the pc & they never downgrade directx.
If you won't install burning software you can't make the copies.

The Nero installation claims it will install DirectX 9, even though Vista
has DirectX 10, and furthermore Nero installation aborts if you don't agree
to installing DirectX 9. I don't know enough about DirectX to tell whether
Nero actually does what it claims it will do, or whether DirectX 10 has full
backward compatibility.

I've seen other programs that also claim they will install DirectX 9 onto
Vista.

R

Richard

Yes I know.
Just click YES but it will NOT downgrade DirectX. No applications or games
downgrade DirectX.
I have Nero installed here...I clicked YES & I have v10.

Perhaps, perhaps not. Your CDrom Writer has to be both compatible with
Vista _and_ Nero.

Won't know that until I get Nero installed on the computer. I realize this Vista was designed to force a buyout of NEW hardware and software for everyone.
