need your help on FP2002 problem opening web or creating folder

W98se Office XP FP2002 all service packs installed. Previously
running FP2000, using FrontPage exclusively to manage customer
webs over last 3 years.

I've managed somehow to develop a problem with a key customer web
site I maintain. It's been a week since the problem appeared and no updates
can be accomplished for the customer. They site reflects pre Christmas
situations and it needs New Year's Eve updating. I'm very desperate.

This active on-line web residing alone on a dedicated web server
will not allow me to connect, open, access or enter it at all. All of the
other
webs I manage from this machine (8) on other servers do work fine.

The user-pw window does not appear at all when the error occurs and
that is the first symptom. Typing or click the address, go to, import, edit
from IE, all of these go arounds have been tried with no success. I've even
tried deleting the web inside the web folders group, and now can't access
the site to open the web again.

Although the application does not terminate or "crash" when trying to open
the web, it goes out in the universe somewhere and never returns. The
client application freezes, and cnt-alt-del is required to get the machine
back. Task manager doesn't indicate any problem, but you have to "end
task" manually to get back to the desktop.

I've asked 4 individuals on unrelated separate Internet connected nets
to run their own FP2002 client and access the web with my user name
and password. They have no trouble in accessing and authoring.

Here are some additional symptoms:

* When trying to "import" the existing web, a warning appears that says
the .css is opened and in use by another client or another application
is currently using it.

* On importing the existing web, the application states that the web was
created with FrontPage and that to maintain navigation and other
issues I should open the web and publish it to the web folder. And,
that's exactly what I'm trying to do and can't.

* The web site is publicly reachable via IExplorer on this same machine.
* The web server is running W2000 server IIS 5.0 with server ext installed
and delivering navigation and java components to IE just fine.
* A close acquaintance has, as a favor to me and using my username and
pw entered the site and recalculated the web.
* My FP2002 has been removed and reinstalled... requiring SP1 and 2
reinstalls
for Office XP.

the above link opens the site for others, however I get the following DNS
error in
my IE6: "The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web
site
might be experiencing technical difficulties you may need to adjust browser
settings".

* I am not running behind a firewall. I have cable modem access and nothing
has changed in my network setup as far as I can report.
* username/pw has been reset on the server via the above network
acquaintance
* FrontPage 2002 has been removed and "reinstalled" from CD on my desktop

Can someone please help? If you will also directly email your suggestion or
input to

this would allow a speedy response and immediate chance to resolve this big
problem.

Have you check with your ISP to see if they have updated anything?
Have you check with the web host to see if they have updated anything?

If you need to update the site for New Year's Eve are near any of the folks
that can access the site in FP, that you can use their computer to make the
needed updates?

thanks very much for reply Thomas. The "host" is the customer as they
have their own web server. However, and something I've been more
suspicious of lately.... there is a "reservations" system (customer is a
hotel) which is only an secure server interface, that resides on the same
server as the web. It works in tandem with the web site to interface
their guest reservations system.

When I approach the reservations system people, as well as the others
who are able to access the web via FP2002 using my name and pw,
they all tell me that the co-exiting reservations interface wouldn't be a
problem at all nor culprit... as everyone else CAN access the site. I'm
the only one who can not.

And, yes... very awkwardly I have the ability to get work accomplished
with a backup plan for New Years Eve.

Thanks and please continue to toss any and all ideas this way. I really
need the help.

Could it be possible that your IP address is being block at the server?

good question. but, I can browse the site via my IE. are they're other
settings in the server that could do that, separately from viewing html on
the web in IE?

Are you using a dns service? Dynamic dns or something like zoneedit.com

no DNS service as described below in use. Just standard assignment from the
ISP... fixed IP. also for sake of earlier question from Thomas... I'm
able to
open the web on a secondary machine from inside the very small two machine
LAN here in my office, with a copy of FP2002 previously installed prior to
the
disaster, which at this point is about to drive me into insanity, lol.

Also try turning off any firewalls (Norton Internet Security?)
You may have a web folder problems
