Something terrible has happened to my PC. I can no longer
use any of the desktop icons, run any of the programs from
the start menu, any of the diagnostic programs from the
start menu, or any of the backup utilities. I recently
uninstalled Norton Internet Security 2004 Professional
(because I became infected with (3) viruses since I
installed it.). Once I uninstalled it, I started getting
star-up errors and lost the functionality of nearly every
aspect of my PC.
In a futile attempt to simply overwrite the problem, I
purchased Windows XP. Unfortunately, the CD will spin up
but it will not allow me to upgrade. I even tried
browsing the CD and selecting the .exe file manually.
When I do that, with any .exe file on a CD or on my hard-
drive, I get the following message: Cannot find the
' _:\Setup.exe (or one of its components). Make sure the
past and filename are correct and that all required
libraries are available.
I have successfully reloaded Internet Explorer, so at
least I can check email and try to get assistance online.
However, everything else is dead.
Someone please help. I am Self-Employed, and the majority
of my business information is temporarily located on this
PC. I really need to alleviate this situation.
Thanks in advance,
