Hi,

I have used a particular program on my XP system for years, but when i
install it on VISTA,it doesnt run properly.I really need to use this
program.
WHAT MIGHT make it work properly ????

Problem:
I have tried installing it in the usual place, and in C:\ and D:\ both times
i got the same messages.

I get the error messages below:

1) The first message i get after installation is :

to check the install log which says "Unable to save the uninstall
information to the registry. Uninstall will not work properly."

2) when i try to register with my key i get this message
"cannot perform this operation on a closed dataset" - WHAT is a Closed data
Set ?? Is that the problem ? HOW do i get around that ????

3) when i try to UNinstall it, error message is :
FATAL ERROR
"....There is no installation archive present.
No installation parameters were specified.
You should not delete this program or execute it directly."

4) when i open the program i get this message :
"I/O error 123"
The program then looks normal and looks open and ready to work

5) when i try to close the program I get this message:
"the application is not responding. The program may respond if you wait.
Do you want to end this process?"

I had another 2 programs not install properly, and in the one case i was told
to install in a different folder or drive which worked fine. But in the other
case the program did not work properly.I was told that it was due to the
UAC.

Does anyone have ANY SUGGESTIONS to make the program work properly ?????

THANKS

Your particular un named program may not be compatible with Vista, and wont
work no matter what you do.

Right-click on the Program's setup.exe>Properties>tabs across the top, click
on compatibility>Install in XP SP2 Mode

Give that a whirl.

Only the manufacturer of that top secret (must be; you carefully
refused to name it, thereby deliberately limiting any possible help you
might get) program can provide you with patches and/or updates needed to
make the old application Vista-compatible.

In the meantime, you can try running the application in WinXP (or
earlier Windows version) Compatibility mode. Right-click on the
pertinent application's Shortcut > Properties > Compatibility Tab.
