need to upgrade....

My system is roughly 3 years old...and its time to upgrade. I've been out
of the loop since the last time i upgraded. My budget is tight. I've been
on newegg and found some upgrades I like.

current system is...
AMD Athlon 1.5 Ghz
GeForce 3 Ti 4200 128 MB
896 MB Ram

First question...

Is a AMD 64 Venice 2.0 Ghz better than AMD Sempron 2.0 Ghz?

Which video card?

GeForce 6600gt<pci express>? or GeForce 6800<agp>?

Another question...

I have a SATA HDs in my current machine, Is SATA2 backward compatible?

If you get the 64, get the 3200+ with the larger 1MB L2 cache:

If you get the Sempron, get the 3400+ as it has larger L2 cache:

D'oh!
Meant to write GeForce 3 Ti 200 LOL.
AMD64 better than Sempron at same clockspeed. Which GeForce 6800 AGP?
6800GT can be softmodded to improve performance, but this will invalidate
warranty and is not certain to work. pci express gives more future upgrade
possibilities.

Thanks for the reply Mike.
Here are the two video cards I'm looking at...

You pays your money and make your choice. The 6800GT is very good value,
because it's old technology, the 6600GT pci-express lets you upgrade in the
future.

Mike.
