Need to repair a file

System died and needed to be rebuilt. Most recent copy of outlook.pst was
open at the time and is on the backup source as ~outlook.pst.tmp. I have
tried the following:
Inport contents
add additional data file
changed the name to outlook.pst
attempted repair using scanpst.exe
All had the same result - outlook will not recognize the file as a PST and
will not continue.
Any suggestions on how I can convert this file to the .pst format outlook
2007 is expecting?

Dr Bill

How and where was this backup implimented?
Outlook doesnt not natively create a backup when its in use.
Do you not have access to the origonal hard disk?

THe backup / file copy was performed with Beyond Compare. the negative in
this case is the program coppied the in use (.tmp) copy of the pst file. I
was able to recover the pst file from the original disk as it was an upgrade
and not replaced due to failure... I was so focused on the file repair, I
overlooked the most obvious solution - recover the source.

Thanks for the response
