Hi,

Did a hard drive re-write but have managed to re-install 2 versions of
Windows XP by mistake.

Can someone tell me how to remove the duplicate safely?

Cheers,

Brian.

boot to the version you want to keep...then delete the 2nd windows folder
and remove the entry from boot.ini

Hi,

Cheers for reply.

Managed to detele boot text from boot - notepad fairly easily so no longer
get choice of XP but it won't let me delete WINDOWS.0 folder in C:

How is this done?

Cheers.

Open a Command Prompt and issue one of the following commands:

set system

set windir

What does the command return?

Windows.0 would be the 2nd installation...
if you can't delete it then that's the one you must be booted to...
the other one would probably be just plain "windows"

In boot.ini you must have deleted the entry that boots to the regular
Windows directory. Try re-editing boot.ini back to the way it was then
remove the other line. Reboot and you should now be running from Windows and
not Windows.0. Then you can delete Windows.0

Thanks everyone,

have more or less sort it - have removed boot choice & duplicate windows
files but now stuck with folder called WINDOWS.0 and All Users.WINDOWS.0 in
Documents and Settings!
