Need to reinstall Outlook Express

G

Guest

Long story short, my Outlook Express porgram got corrupted and I had to
delete it. I need it back, does anyone know where I can download a copy? I
know it is bundled with the Internet Explorer download, but when I tried to
do that (IE 6) it kept saying my version was higher than the installer. Any
ideas? I just want Outlook back.

It is not real easy to completely remove Outlook Express. It is, hoever,
fairly easy to remove access to Outlook Express.

Outlook Express is msimn.exe. MicroSoft Internet Mail and News.

Start | Run | Type: msimn | OK |

There should be a shortcut on the Start Menu.
Start | All Programs |

If not...
Right click the Start button | Properties | Start Menu tab |
Customize button | General tab | Show on Start menu |
Place a check in E-mail | Click the V and select Outlook Express | OK |
Apply | OK

Maybe access was removed in Add or Remove Programs.

Open Add or Remove Programs...
Start | Run | Type: appwiz.cpl | OK |
Add/Remove Windows Components | Scroll down to
Outlook Express and place a check in the box | Next button |
Finish button

Should be here...

How to Reinstall or Repair IE6 and OE6:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=318378

Although written for WinXP, it works for all Windows operating systems 98 or
newer.

If you are using WinXP/SP2, and it was not already on your computer from the
factory, you will have to remove SP2 first.

How to remove SP2:

Cut everything between the lines below and paste it into notepad. Save the
file as installoe.reg and save it to your desktop. Make sure when you save
it you change the save as.... drop down box to all files. Once it is saved
then double click on it to merge it into the registry. This will allow you
to reinstall OE. Get it here

Chris, reinstalling OE won't help if your identity's store is damaged or if
your settings are wrong.

I advise you *not* to follow this pcbutts1's suggestions.

Chris (who hasn't been heard from since his initial post) didn't say OE was
broken, he said he "had to delete it." How he did this is anybody's guess
(as is what "porgram [sic] got corrupted" means) but knowing the answer and
if he's running SP2 would be needed to be able to supply him with pertinent,
helpful suggestions and recommendations.

Not knowing any of the above, Chris should be able to make OE available
again via Add/Remove Programs > Add/Remove Windows Components > Outlook
Express. If not, he can follow the steps posted in
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=318378 to repair or reinstall IE/OE.
Then, if he runs into problems, the Registry edit you posted might be
helpful to him but I wouldn't recommend that anybody use an undocumented REG
file coming from an unknown, anonymous source posting it in an unmoderated
public newsgroup.

The undocumented reg file is listed at the bottom of the link you posted,
had you bothered to read it you would have known that.

Well mister smart ass why don't you explain what is wrong with my advice
and how it will damage his already broken OE.

The KB article lists a documented way to edit Registry allowing the current
version of IE/OE to be reinstalled. It is not a REG file or a suggestion to
use one.

Why? Because he has reason not to trust you? You have a bad rep here,
and your advise should be avoided like the plague, and the noobs here
need to be warned about you.

PA Bear's rep is beyond reproach, especially by the likes of you.

Wow sorry I wasn't around to read this I had to run. Let me explain more
indepth...

I am running Windows XP Home Sp1

My problem, is that everytime I open Outlook, It hangs on the logo for a
good 4-5 minutes. Then, the program opens, but it seems to be frozen. I
waited it out for another good 5 minutes, and it runs, but pretty slowly. I
thought that reinstalling it might help, only because I see how my friends
use outlook, and it opens right away, no hanging or anything. Is there a way
to solve it? Thanks for you help.

Are you using Outlook or Outlook Express? They are very different programs.
If it's Outlook Express there's a lot of good information at:

http://www.insideoutlookexpress.com/

and some general repair procedures here:

But, Kurt, you *know* homophobia is *always* an attempt by someone -
secretly afraid that they themselves are homosexual - to try to prevent the
rest of the world from suspecting the same, by making the idea seem too
fantastic to contemplate! Why else would it be so funny when, in their
ignorance, they do it for the whole world to see! I think pcbuttkiss
deserves a little more respect!

Outlook or Outlook Express, Chris?

Assuming the latter, it does sound like a damaged store, something
reinstalling OE won't help. See
