Need to reinstall OEM copy of Windows XP Pro

B

Brendan

I had an OEM copy of Windows XP Pro on my computer but I had to erase
my hard drive because it had been eaten away by a virus and my
recovery function didn't work. I thought I could use the retail copy
of Windows along with the Product Key on the computer's certificate of
authenticity but it is telling me that this is an invalid code. I
don't have access to the OEM copies that came with my computer and I
won't for a while because I am overseas for the next 6 months. Do I
have any options?

It's an IBM ThinkPad T30 2366-87U. I checked the IBM website and I
found a restore and recovery program but it says that the Windows
Operating System needs to be installed. I haven't tried it yet. Any
help is appreciated. I will be glad to reciprocate with good advice
for anyone planning to vacation in Italy!

Thanks in advance,

Brendan

An OEM Windows XP Product Key will only work with
an OEM Windows XP installation CD. You'll have to
contact IBM support and request an IBM restore CD designed
for your specific IBM PC.

Use the product key included with the legal retail version you are using
for the Windows install.
