My hard drive recently crashed and I did not have a program files
back-up. I cannot find my original Windows XP Professional CD but I do
have my Product Key. Can I download a version of XP Pro that I can
burn to CD and use my existing key? I can't find it on the MS web
site? Thanks in advance for your help!

There are no legitimate download versions of xp. You might borrow one from a
friend but it would have to be exactly the same version of xp you had for
your key to work.

uh, windows is moneyware and not shareware.... Like money falling out of
your pocket, if you loose your copy then you can't get a different one fo
nottin....And every legitimate copy produced my microsoft has a unique
product key for the extraction and setting up of that particular copy.

Maybe you could borrow someone else's copy, install it, then make it legit
by replacing its product id with the one you have... Not sure how successful
this is or how others feel about it...

No, there are no legitimate sources from which to download Microsoft
operating systems or major applications, unless you're doing so via a
very expensive MSDN subscription.

If it was a retail license and you have proof of purchase:

If it was an OEM license, you should contact the computer's
manufacturer.

your right. the product key for the cd has to be used. But the installation
doesn't have to be activated right away and you can get 7 or 8 free uses out
of it before it stops functioning. In the interim, the product keys can be
switched....
