i have vista prem on my computer that i bought recently and would like to
change the os to windows xp pro. i have a copied cd of the full install for
it and a cd
key that hasnt been used at all which i received from school from our it
club. now the question is if i were to install xp with the copied cd and
entered a legit unused cd key would it work? the terms for the cdkey and
windows xp were one time use only and wanted us to dl the cd at school and
use that cd to install on our computers. does it matter if i use the
copied/bootleg version of xp with a legit cd key? i am now in mexico and
cannot find a real copy of windows xp so i don't know what to do. any
suggestions?

thanks. just to be clear so even if the cd itself is a copied/bootleg cd as
long as i use a correct edition legit cd key i should be okay?

By 'Edition', all CD's of XP are the same. Any key for that edition, (home,
pro, media center, tablet) will work just fine.

Not quite true. Besides the CD having to be correct with respect to
Home, Professional, etc., it also has to match with respect to Retail
vs. OEM, Full vs. Upgrade, and language.
