cd key writer for WIN XP

Does anyone know of any CD key writers. Basically, my Dell Inspiron
2200 pc was hit by the siggen-1 or sasser virus and recovery does not
work. I had WinXP on my PC, but Dell discontined support for XP. I
see the CD key on my PC, but Dell won't send me the WinXP cds, trying
to get me to "upgrade my machine". I just want to buy the WinXP cd
for this PC for the originally listed price of $10. I decided to
install XP from another PC, but my CD key does not work. I was able
to install XP using the cdkey on the CD, but want to be legit, and use
my cdkey. Does anyone know how or where to write the CD key? I read
it is spread all over the registry now to prevent people from getting
it. I tried googling "cd key writer". Are they any other terms which
might yield better hits?
I am looking for the algorithm used by magic jelly bean or other key
readers. Is it possible to change the CD key associated with a
particular pc to that of the CD key on the case?.
BTW, another one of my pc was hit by probably the same virus (I was
using sourceforge.net 's Moon AV). I tried restoring lsass.exe, but
that did not do the trick. I get an error in safe mode telling me
that the entry point in lsass.exe is bad. I can come up in Recovery
Mode and in MiniNT, but haven't been able to fix my problems yet.
I have put Linux on another HD and put in in this pc, but want all of
my devices to work.

CD Keys stuck to a PC's "external" case are usually OEM versions. You
might still be able to install a :generic" OEM version of XP.
"Generic" OEM versions of XP are OEM versions that are "not branded"
with a "company" name nor are they "BIOS locked."

Will changing the product key make the window Genuine advantage
functionality work?
Are there any other problems that might crop up?
I have WIndows Vista, but worry that half the device drives might not
work if I upgrade.

No.

No.

If you want to upgrade, go with Windows 7 instead of Vista.

You can use your key with a download, just match XP Home/Pro and OEM/Retail
versions. (You probably have OEM XP Home.)
