I have Windows Mail. Can anyone tell me how to compact a large file into a
small file. (at present it must to be large to send, as I get a message
saying I have exceeded my limit).

The mailprogram can split your file into parts.

You've gotten advice about splitting the file, but it really depends on
1) how large it is; 2) what the file is. Since most ISPs have a limit of
1-1.5MB, if you're trying to send a file very much larger than that you
won't want to split it into dozens of pieces. That would 1) increase the
possibility of corruption of some of the bits; and 2) torture your
recipient. Here are a few suggestions until you come back with the
answers to my questions:

1. If the file is just a tad over the limit, split it into two.

2. If the file is not already in compressed format (such as a .jpg
image), you can zip it. See Vista's Help & Support for how to zip a file.

3. If the file is really large and/or can't be made too much smaller by
zipping:

a. Put it on an FTP server or website for your recipient to download; or
b. Use a service like Whale Mail or You Send It.
