Need to disable ICS

I have a home network configured as follows. Two computers are connected
wirelessly and two are wired. I ran the connection wizard a couple of months
ago trying to solve a sharing problem. Now, my wired computer displays a
connection called Internet Gateway and the other computer won't connect
unless that computer is on. Two computers are XP Pro and two are XP Home. My
wired is Pro. I really would like to be able to connect without having my
wired computer on. I also don't understand how my wireless laptop won't
connect unless my wired computer is on. The wired computer has no wireless
connection. The router to which all are supposed to get their IP's from is a
Microsoft MN700.

Any suggestions? Need more info?

Thank you kindly.

depends on your network config, are the wired pcs plugged into a switch
and the access point plugged into a switch? is the router also plugged
into the switch or plugged straight into one of the pc's? you should
have the router plugged into a switch that way there is no need for any
ics on any of the pcs, they just need an ip address, default gateway
and dns servers all of which can be issued through dhcp from the
router. then to map network drives, make sure all pcs have a unique
system name and that they are all in the same workgroup then open my
comp click tools/map network drive/browse/workgroup and do it that way.
windows wizards are lame.

I really don't understand, but to disable ICS:

Start | Run <type in> services.msc <enter>
And stop then disable WIndows Firewall - it's a match'd set

Of course your running another brand of firewall.

I'm not sure what you don't understand, but let me try again. (I am not
running any firewall except Windows and all four computers run the Windows
firewall). I have a high speed internet connection and a wireless router.
All computers (4) should be able to access the internet through the router
directly without going through the gateway which happens to be my main,
wired computer. Are you saying that I must run ICS if I want to use the
Windows firewall? That is strange because if I turn off the main computer
and turn on my laptop and do a repair to the laptop connection, it will
access the internet. If I turn on the main computer (with the internet
gateway connection on the main computer disabled) and restart the laptop,
the laptop will not connect to the router. I hope this is clearer.

Dear Flamer,
I think I am configured that way. The cable modem is connected to the
wireless router. The wireless router has 4 ethernet ports. Two computers
are connected by wire to the ethernet ports on the router. Two computers are
laptops which connect wirelessly. All computers have unique names and belong
to the same workgroup. Thanks for your response.
