Need to delete phantom programs from crashed F drive that is gone

I had programs on a C and F hard drive. F crashed. I need to reinstall the
programs on the C drive. Some programs like MS active sync stop on
installation because they detect traces of the program in windows that show
it installed on the phantom F drive that has gone to neverland.
Can someone give me a list of where the traces of the phantom programs are
in Xp sp2????

You didn't mention how you lost your partition so either a) you
need to recover the lost partition or b) you simply want to proceed and fix
those
broken shortcuts and orphaned registry entries.

For the pratical response to your question, you need to clean up the
registry.
There are different ways to do it but some software like system mechanic can
clean up you system, eg shortcuts, registry entries, etc..,
The trial version is fully functinal for 30 days.
If you had choosen to sacrifice that partition, this software could have
relocated that
software to another location and modify all the windows files as well,
before formatting it
or deleting it.

Just out of curiosity, did you loose that partition or decided to give it up
and reformatted it?
Did you try to out a previous restore point to recover the partition.?

Incidently, I'm not a system mechanic sales man. But I recommend it
because it has a lot of options that help fix problems a lot easier.
And it also addes to the understanding to the various facets of
maintenaning a smooth system. There are others outthere too,
but this one is easier for me to remember...

I had two seperate drives each with a program file with various programsthe
reason for this was retaining enough room on c for cleaning it up. The
phantom programs were on the drive that destroyed itself and no longer
exists.
I quess what I need to do is get rid of registry entries referring to the
orginal F drive. Is that correct?

no I did not voluntarily mess up the system. (grin)
PS i was on the internet before Al Gore invented it and came up with the
name. Back then it was just called a satelite uplink and downlink to avoid
long distance charges for out of town bbs's

OK, I ran everything on system mechanic . An example of my problem is that
MS active sync was on the f drive that is wasted. When I try to reinstall it
from CD, The install stops and says it is still there on drive F and that I
should uninstall it first. That is not so since drive F has departed this
world.
I try the MS uninstall, and get Drive F is inaccesable. That's correct
since it is dead. I'm beginning to think I need to go into the registry and
look for references to Activesync???? and delete.????
i'm having the same problems with other programs that were on the F drive
also. I can't install them on the new C drive because the installer is
finding refs somewhere to their being located on the dead drive F.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
