need to connect to URLor IP but web server local ?

Hi,

I have a customer facing web site that is hosted locally in a segregated area. All external users can connect using the url or fixed IP address.

Internal users must connect using the local IP. When local users connect using the external url they get "page cannot be displayed" or are prompted with router login page. The fixed IP is the external IP of the router.

I would like to allow internal and external users to be able to connect using the same link.

Is there some way I can persuade DNS to allow internal users to use the external IP ?

Thanks
Scott.

Hi,

The problem is most likely a DNS problem. Without knowing
how your network look like, i cannot say exactly what you
should do. But you have a few options.
1: You can forward to your ISP's DNS server.
2: You can add a record for this Web Site in your own DNS-
server (i assume that you have one, since you have this
issue). This would give you extra work because if you
change IP for the Web Site, you would have to change in 2
DNS servers. But on the other hand, this would work if you
have a domain (Active Directory domain) with the same name
as this Web Site (but without the www).

Hope this helps you to solve this!
