Windows Server 2000 cant access anything outside of the local netw

This is a windows 2000 server that is running as a DC, and it also serves
dns, dhcp, and exchange. It has been running fine for several years, and then
today all email has stopped to external addresses. All of the windows clients
still have internet access, this server is the only machine that cant access
the outside. we ran the test in DNS "ServerName">Properties>Monitoring>, and
it failed the recursive query. We tried accessing google directly by typing
its ip (72.14.205.100) in the servers browser and it failed to connect.

Local network DNS works fine for all the clients. Any help would be greatly
appreiciated.

A nslookup for 4.2.2.4 times out. we also disabled fowarders, and restarted
DNS. We have also replaced the NIC, cat5, and changed ports on the switch.
