LOL! Sorry, I like SP2, what can I say. After 98/Me/2000, it's great. Like
Kurt, though, I have a number of things disabled that came with it and, no,
I am not a MS fan, really. Get me started on activation and validation.

Thanks Kurt, but it made no difference. I already did the things listed
in the link, too.

BTW, removing SP2 still left the stupid problem behind. Nice, Microsoft,
real nice. So much for your uninstall routine, eh?

O.K....It is not a patch... it is rather, a HUMONGOUS patch...And since not
using IE any longer and further installing a hardware firewall/router, I am
happily experiencing many fewer 'beasties'.... I still consider XP
Professional the best OS Redmond has issued, ever, ....it is still
unfortunatley compromised by idiots who wanna hack it, and no software
Company can prevent everything . At some point I may have to install SP2 and
pray, but for now, i prefer the relative stability of the build I am using,
without voluntarily allowing SP2 to muck-it up.

You probably will get problems. I got a problem when I installed
SP2, even though I was pretty sure it would install smoothly
because my system is so simple and clean. It turned out I had an
incompatible version of one program running.

My suggestion to you is to make a mirror backup of your drive, and
give SP2 a try. If it fails you are not out anything except a few
hours fiddling. I would never even *think* about trying to install
SP2 without a mirror backup of the C drive.

I don't mean simply turn it off, I need to completely obliterate it and
everything it and any other network stupidity SP2 did to my machine. I
need to have SP2 in order to support my users properly.

Since installing SP2 mapped drives on Netware servers do not reconnect
at startup and when I try to reconnect or browse to them manually I am
denied access and then told the network name cannot be found, example:

"\\Nwpths1\APPS is not accessible. You might not have permissions to use
this network resource. Contact the administrator of the server to find
out if you have access permissions.

The network name cannot be found."

I _AM_ the administrator of the server. I can login manually browsing
through the NDS tree. Another anomoly is even when I locate a server
object in the tree opening it shows it as empty and I am not
authenticated to it. Yet another is that in Netware Services, Netware
Server I only see servers I am attached to instead of all NW servers on
the wire like in pre-SP2.

Another net-admin told me there are some registry items that need to be
changed to correct this but couldn't remember them. I have changed a
couple of things concerning the firewall (override firewall and override
a/v) but they have had no effect at all. My a/v is set to not scan
network drives.

Any help appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve

Situation partly resolved and it was NOT easy. I had to remove SP2 again
but the problems persisted. I removed all network components, verified
the NIC driver was the most recent availabe (it was), reinstalled just
the Novell client using IP only. Problem persisted. Removed Novell
client again, went through the registry and cleared out a slew of net
related BS left over, reinstall the Novell client using IP and IPX,
finally returned to normal. I will still need to install SP2 but I fear
the whole ball of crap will only be repeated as this has been verified
as a repeatable problem on a variety of PCs and various versions of the
Novell client and must be resolved.

I'll be persuing this in one of the Novell support forums but I'll
report any new info here as well.

Thanks to everyone who's replied, I appreciate all your thoughts and
efforts.
