when upgrading to xp pro from xp hm ny sapphire radeon 9600
driver and software stoped working. a window came up
telling me that the ati driver and software was corupt. I
uninstalled and tried to reinstall but it told me that I
need a standred vga driver before it would install the ati
software. My question is where do I aquire a standred vga
driver. Is it somewhere on my xp pro disk or can I go
somewhere to download one.

Try starting in SafeMode....F8 at boot click until XP starts.
This loads basic VGA drivers.
From there you should be able to install the Radeon drivers.
